Broncos boys lose two at RPAC

The Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball team saw its RPAC experience end Tuesday night with a 37-48 loss to Maxwell in Wauneta.
The Broncos played Wallace Saturday in Hayes Center to start the tournament.
Aidan Kennicutt and Kyle Jutten made first quarter baskets for WP, along with a free throw by Ruel Malcolm.
Trailing 5-15, the Broncos put together a solid offensive second quarter behind a seven-point effort by Grayden Sutherland. Sutherland, Michael Duvel, Jacksen Littrel and Laiden Lawler came off the bench to score 14 of WP’s 15 points in the quarter. Wallace’s offense was tough to stop, however, and the Broncos trailed 20-34 at halftime.
The Wildcats completely broke the game open with a 32-point third quarter. Duvel scored two three pointers for WP in the quarter to go with two point field goals by Malcolm and Robert Hanna and a free throw by Sutherland.
Lawler hit two more 3s in the fourth quarter and Ashton Wheeler made his first basket of the game to wrap up the 41-72 loss.
Lawler led the Broncos with nine points. Sutherland and Duvel each added eight points.
A recap of Tuesday’s game with Maxwell will be available in next week’s paper.
Fall to Paxton
Before Saturday’s start to the tournament, WP made a Thursday trip to Paxton.
Most of WP’s first half offense came by two 3s by Duvel and one by Hanna. A two point field goal by Walker gave WP 11 first half points to 36 by Paxton.
Duvel made two free throws and Lawler one to account for all of the Broncos’ third quarter points.
Hanna hit WP’s fourth three pointer of the game in the fourth quarter. Two point field goals by Wheeler and Kennicutt, to go with a free throw by Kennicutt, rounded out WP scoring in the 22-62 loss.
Duvel scored eight points to lead WP.
All nine Broncos suited up played in the game.
Up next
WP will host Medicine Valley (11-1) next Thursday. A trip to Sutherland (0-12) is in store for the Broncos the following night.
Games against Rawlins County, Kansas, Maywood/Hayes Center and Arthur County remain on WP’s schedule.
