Blake Nickerson pinned Maxwell’s Trevor Manka at the RPAC meet.

Bronco wrestling places three at RPAC meet

The Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers had four finish in the top four at the RPAC meet Jan. 20.
Freshman Konner McCrumb placed second at 106 lbs. His only loss in the seven-man bracket came to Class D No. 3 Micah Gerlach of Cambridge.
Fellow freshman Blake Nickerson battled back from injuries to take third place at 182 lbs. After a first round loss, Nickerson fought through the bracket to claim third place out of eight wrestlers.
Trey McCrumb placed fourth at 170 lbs. T. McCrumb also lost his first match of the day to Maxwell’s Cyrrus Messersmtih (25-7), but came back with two pins to advance to the third place match where he lost to Messersmith once more.
Coach Danny Schluckebier said T. McCrumb has shown a lot of improvement since last year and his record reflects that.
Bob Chism, 106 lbs.; Coleman Chism, 113 lbs.; Justin Warembourg, 145 lbs.; Sean Manley, 195 lbs.; and Draven Miner, 220 lbs., all went 0-2.
Schluckebier said it was great feeling to take an almost full roster to a meet.
“For so long we have been hounded by injuries and illness, it was great to come together as a strong and healthy team and compete for the day,” he said.
    C. Chism was in a loaded bracket that included Class D’s Nos. 2 and 3 wrestlers. Besides those two, three other wrestlers had 20-plus wins.
Manley and Warembourg, other Broncos who have battled injuries, are working to get their technique back after weeks off the mat.
Although Miner was on the mat, Schluckebier said the freshman battled illness off and on leading up to the meet.
Up next
The Broncos will be at the Medicine Valley Duals Thursday night, then head back to Curtis Friday for the Medicine Valley Invite.
Schluckebier said it will be  an important meet as it’s one step closer to district wrestling.
“It will be a tough meet but I think we will be ready to show them we work hard in practice and continue to work hard on the mat,” he added. RPAC Meet
