Bronco wrestlers travel to invites

    The Wauneta-Palisade wrestling team tackled back-to-back invites last week and is hopeful of being fully healthy in the coming weeks.
    Five wrestlers hit the mats Friday at the Dundy County Stratton Invite.
    Conner Bryner rolled through his first four rounds of 170 lb. pool before losing to 17-1 Triston Stearns of Brady and finishing second.
    At 106 lbs., Coleman Chism won one of four pool matches and placed fifth.
    Trey McCrumb, at 160 lbs., lost both his pool matches, then split his matches in the consolation pool.
    After starting off his day with a loss in his pool, Derik Kennicutt rebounded with a win in his second match. Kennicutt lost his last three matches.
    Justin Warembourg lost both his pool matches at 132 lbs., then lost his first match in the seeded bracket.
    Cole Hamilton was 0-3 at in the four-man pool at 220 lbs.
    The following day, the Broncos traveled to Oshkosh for the Garden County Invite.
    Bryner brought home another runner up finish from the meet, taking pins in his quarterfinal and semifinal matches.
    Up against 19-6 Kolyn Gaston in the finals, Bryner was pinned in the third period.
    Chism lost both his matches in the 106 lb. bracket.
    McCrumb lost both his matches in the 160 lb. bracket.
    After a loss to start off his day in the 220 lb bracket, Hamilton bounced back with a win before ending his day with a consolation round three loss. Hamilton’s 10-second pin of Bryan Case with Gering JV was the fastest on the day.
    Kennicutt also lost both his matches in the 285 lb. bracket.
    Warembourg didn’t take part in the meet.
Up next
    WP will start a long weekend of wrestling Friday night at the Chase County quadrangular. Also there will be Kimball and Leyton.
    Matches will begin at 7 p.m.
    Saturday will be the CCS Invite. Matches will begin at 9 a.m.
    WP Coach Danny Schluckebier said he’s hopeful Ethan Carl, Cody Holmes and Laila Aufdengarten will be able to wrestle again soon.
