Bronco netters fall to Knights in five

    The Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team slipped to 2-3 on the season with a five-set loss to South Platte Thursday.
    The night started off with a hard fought set. Wauneta-Palisade took a 16-10 lead, only to be overtaken by South Platte. As the set wore on, the Broncos trailed 22-23, then had to hold off set point, 23-24. After a side out, Halle Bardsley served up the final two points of the 26-24 win.
    The second set was all about the Broncos. Cali Cox served up three aces as Wauneta-Palisade jumped out to a 10-1 lead. GraCee Goings added three aces of her own to increase the Broncos’ advantage to 19-4. Wauneta-Palisade won the set 25-18.
    The tide turned in the third set when South Platte took a big lead. After an ace serve to start the set, the Broncos fell behind 1-8. Wauneta-Palisade came back to tie the set at 19-19, but it was South Platte with the better push at the end. After a 20-20 tie, the Knights scored the final five points of the match.    

The Broncos struggled to hold serve in the fourth set. Wauneta-Palisade only held serve three times in the 12-25 loss.
    Wauneta-Palisade had first serve in the deciding set and jumped out to a 4-1 lead. The Broncos trailed by three points, 7-10, before a Goings ace tied the set at 10-10. Four-straight points by the Knights set up match point. Wauneta-Palisade held off one match point, but not two, losing 11-15.

    WP has a busy week ahead.
    The Broncos will head to St. Francis, Kansas Thursday for a triangular with the Indians and Rawlins County, Kansas.
    Saturday the team will head to the Hitchcock County tournament.
    Two big RPAC games are on the schedule for next week, Southwest (5-2) Tuesday and Maywood/Hayes Center (4-0) Thursday.
