Boys basketball team on a roll nearing the end of the season

    The boys’ basketball team won three out of four games from Feb. 2-6.
    Hitchcock County Falcons visited Imperial for games Tuesday, Feb. 6, and ran into a red hot Longhorn team that shut down everything they attempted. The Longhorns won the game 62-27.
    The Longhorns jumped on the Falcons early, outscoring them 18-6 in the first period and kept the pressure on for the first three quarters.
    The speed of the Longhorns was too much for the Falcons, forcing 28 turnovers by the visitors. The Longhorns controlled the ball nicely, only giving up 12 turnovers.
    The Horns outscored the Falcons 25-2 in transition points and put in 36 points off turnovers, while only giving up 7.
    Cameron Lempke led all scoring with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals. Easton Fries was also in double digit scoring with 14.
    Top point getters for the Falcons were Ashton Johnson with 9 and Jayce Hauxwell with 8.
    Riding a three game winning streak and improving their record to 12-8, the Longhorn boys have only two games left in the season.
    Saturday, the Cambridge Trojans visited Imperial for boys basketball games. This would be the final home game for the season. Cambridge comes in with a record of 13-8, while the Horns are sitting at 12-9.
    Camron Lempke continues to have the hot hand, scoring a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds to help the Longhorns attain a 59-41 win over the Trojans. Jensen Olsen also added 17 points in the game.
    The Trojans kept themselves in the game for the first three quarters, trailing 23-15 at halftime and cutting that deficit by three at the end of the third quarter, 36-31.
    The fourth quarter was dominated by the Longhorns. Cambridge couldn’t keep pace with the Longhorns speed. The Horns dropped in 23 points while the Trojans could only score 10, giving CCS the 59-41 win.
    The Trojans had three players score in double figures, Carson Trompke with 11, Ben Hoberty and Brohdey Wood each added 10.
    The Horns made 7-11 from the charity stripe for 63%, while Cambridge was 7-12 for 58%.
    The Longhorns also dropped in six three pointers, five from Lempke and one from Olsen.
    The Longhorns will travel to Sutherland, Saturday for the final regular season game  against the 1-17 Sailors. The Longhorns are riding a four game winning streak.
