Basketball season comes to an end in Nebraska, Colorado

Nebraska and Colorado capped their basketball seasons over the weekend with state tournaments.
After the girls’ season wrapped up in Nebraska March 4, the boys’ tournament tipped off last Wednesday.
Ogallala’s unbeaten season ended with a semifinal loss to repeat Class C1 state champion Ashland-Greenwood, 50-20. Ogallala, which beat Chase County Dec. 10, finished third after a 72-63 win over Omaha Concordia.
Sidney, which CCS lost to Dec. 9, lost its first round game to Ashland-Greenwood.
Ashland-Greenwood beat eighth seeded Auburn in the championship game, 54-24.
Auburn, playing in its fifth straight state championship game upset, No. 1 Wahoo in the first round.
In Class C2, Gordon-Rushville lost to top seed Freeman in the first round, 52-20. Freeman beat second seeded Amherst in the championship game, 53-35. Amherst, which Chase County beat in a 2021 district final, finished runner up for the second year in a row.
Top seeded North Platte St. Pat’s, No. 2 Maywood/Hayes Center and No. 5 Dundy County Stratton all advanced past the Class D1 first round.
In the semifinals, NPSP beat DCS 43-40 while MHC lost to Johnson Brock 48-40.
NPSP lost to Johnson-Brock in the finals, 40-46, to deny the Irish back-to-back championships.
DCS beat MHC for third place, 67-59.
Paxton lost to No. 1 Wynot in the first round of Class D2. Parkview Christian took the class crown with a 52-49 win over Wynot.
In Class A, Bellevue West finished its season unbeaten with a 64-41 win over second seeded Millard North.
Omaha Skutt claimed the Class B title with a win against second seeded Platteview, 57-50.
In the Colorado boys’ tournament, Wray entered as the fourth seed in Class 2A but won the state championship 45-41 over No. 7 Sanford Saturday.
Individual CCS, WP stats
Jensen Olsen finished the season ranked third in Class C1 in blocks per game and seventh in rebounds per game. Kade Anderson was 20th in made free throws.
Bryn McNair averaged 22.7 points per game and 11.8 rebounds per game, putting her at the top of Class C1 in scoring and rebounding.
Peyton Cox led Class D2 in rebounding, 15.8 rpg, was sixth with 2.2 blocks per game and eighth in scoring, 15.9 ppg, and free throws made, 82.
Cali Cox was sixth in assists per game, 3.9.
GraCee Goings was 12th in made three pointers, 41, and 19th in scoring, 12.4 ppg.
