Wauneta-Palisade, Imperial FFA at Feb. 10 CDE in Curtis

FFA teams for Imperial and Wauneta-Palisade remain busy. Both schools sent teams to the Career and Leadership Development Events at Curtis Feb. 10.
WP’s team one finished second to McCook, 443-449, in vet sciences for a blue ribbon. The placing sends the WP team to state competition.
Faith Burton scored 74 out of 80 for a purple ribbon. Mandy Sandoval scored 72 and took home a blue ribbon. Peyton Vrbas, with a 67, also got a blue ribbon. Zoey Boos rounded out the team.
For WP’s team two, Ryleigh McCrumb, 63, earned a blue ribbon and Trey McCrumb and Amerie Villalobos each earned a red ribbon. Aiden Villalobos also took part.
WP was third as a team in nursery and landscape behind Maywood and Cambridge and qualified for state.
Peyton Cox earned a blue ribbon for WP. Burton, Chase Bryant and Braxton McKinney took home red ribbons. GraCee Goings earned a white ribbon for team two.
The Imperial farm business management team earned a red ribbon. Individually,  Kaden Schilke finished fifth and earned a blue ribbon. Kayla Chavira and Brooke Schilke both won white ribbons.
WP finished with a white ribbon in farm business management. Wyatt McDaniel, with a white ribbon, was WP’s top finisher. Sydnee Acton, Brianna Sramek and Tennille Warembourg also participated.
As a team, Imperial took seventh place and  a white ribbon in agronomy. K. Schilke and Remington Yaw earned white ribbons. Matalie Wallin and Markenna Terryberry also participated.
WP placed seventh in biotech. Chloe Stehno and Kyle Jutten finished with the same score and each received a white ribbon. Allen Ramirez and Cali Cox rounded out the team.
In ag mechanics, WP placed sixth. Colby Hoskovec led the team with a red ribbon and Anthony Sramek earned a white ribbon. Also on the team are Trace Bley and Derik Kennicutt.
Imperial FFA had four junior high quiz bowl teams.
The quartet of Jayme Gittlein, Carter Kuenning, Westyn Mendenhall and Evan Tomky won the competition.
Third place went to Navy Havel, Ashlynn Heermann, Adelle Eskew and Odessa Zadina. Placing fifth were Tucker Mollendor, Peyton Owens, Abby Spicer and Anna Aragon. Two Imperial teams tied for ninth place including the team of Tessa Smith, Dylan Heermann, Jasmine Johnson and Myla Brown and the team of Parker Terryberry, Addison Leibbrandt and Carson Terryberry.
Other events at the Feb. 10 event in Curtis included ag communication, ag mechanics, biotechnology, vet science and nursery and landscape.
Both schools will celebrate National FFA Week next week.
The Frontier County CDE Invite will be March 1 in Eustis. District welding will be held March 22 in McCook. The state convention will be held virtually April 7-9.
