Wauneta-Palisade breaks ground for addition, remodeling project
Wauneta-Palisade Schools formally broke ground on its addition and renovation project last Thursday.
The project will give students 51,650 square feet of new or remodeled space for learning.
Allison Sandman, president of the WP board of education, said the discussion began more than 20 years ago as they sought solutions to address the aging school facilities.
“It’s exciting to break ground on a building that will be safer, more accessible and easier to maintain all while sending a strong message to our students that we want them to thrive,” Sandman added.
The addition offers a secure entryway and other safety features, remodeled classrooms, a more efficient HVAC system, a new kitchen, cafeteria and commons, as well as a gym.
Sandman said the new gym will allow better practice times for all athletes.
“Youth sports are growing in popularity, so the additional gym space will give us more flexibility for scheduling practices and games, as well as fewer conflicts for performing arts,” she said
Wilkins ADP is the project’s architect. BD Construction is serving as the construction manager.
