Senior, freshman selected PBIS Students of Month

■ Editor’s note: Chase County Schools staff in cooperation with the school’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports team are nominating and selecting Students of the Month during the 2022-23 school year. Students of the Month are nominated by staff members based on positive qualities or actions teachers have observed that go above and beyond the usual expectations. The nominations are reviewed by the PBIS team and two students are picked based on the number of nominations and what was said by the nominators.

February’s PBIS Students of the month are senior Grisleydi Ortega and freshman Aragorn Green.
Grisleydi is the daughter of Pascual and Yedith Ortega.
CCS teacher Teri Meyer said this about Grisleydi, “I nominate Grisleydi Ortega. She is always polite, positive and willing to lend a hand. Grisleydi will stay after school to work on projects or get help from teachers.
“She has applied for college and will be the first in her family to go to college. Grisleydi is a charming young lady and a great role model for her peers as well as younger students.”
CCS art teacher Chelsea Zuege added, “Grisleydi has shown outstanding leadership in my classroom this year. It’s sort of a special circumstance, because she took Art I as a freshman and then didn’t take an art class again until this year as a senior.
“She has been in both of my dual credit college classes. I have seen tremendous growth in her as a student and professionally. For example, recently she completed a large art project which required coming in on her extra time before and after school. She has shown her creative talents and skills through her awesome work ethic.”
Grisleydi has participated on the track and golf teams. She has been a member of the speech team and Future Business Leaders of America. She has also been active in the Multi-Cultural Club.
Green is the son of Luka Keck.
CCS English teacher and speech/drama coach Jill Bauerle said this about Aragorn, “Aragorn is quiet but confident. He is willing to help others and will give his time for the good of the team.
“For example, he has come after school to ‘fill in’ for an absent speech student. He will listen to other students’ practice sessions, encourage and compliment them. He is respectful to other students in the classroom and is a model student. This student has demonstrated good citizenship on a daily basis.”
CCS science teacher Justin Anderson added, “Aragorn has gone out of his way to help a fellow classmate with their science fair project. He volunteered his evenings to study a topic that he did not need to. He gave two nights a week for five weeks. He did not have to help out his fellow peer, but did so to make sure that they were successful in their project!”
Aragorn has been a member of the football and track teams, as well as speech and 1-act play. He is a member of the CCS band, jazz band and show choir. He has been selected to the honor band, as well. Aragorn also runs a Chess Club through the Imperial Public Library.
