With school days waning, concert finales on stage

    After a 6-12 band/vocal concert Monday and the 5-6 instrumental performance outside May 1, two more Chase County Schools concerts are on tap in the coming week.
    Friday will be a night with the spotlight on the CCS show choirs, said director David Rushing.
    The junior high show choir performs at 6:30 p.m. Then, after a short break, the high school’s end-of-year show choir concert will start at 7 p.m. featuring the 9th St. Singers. Dancing songs, a boys skit and a few solos/duets/ensembles will be performed, ending with 9th St. Singers’ numbers.
    On Monday, CCS singers in grades K-5 will give their final concert of the school year, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Longhorn gym.
    Director Jodie Liess said her students will be performing toe-tapping cowboy/country music. The audience will hear kazoos, boom whackers, recorders and the school’s new Nuvo instruments.
    Liess said all are welcome to attend in their best western clothes.
    “We look forward to seeing you and sharing what we have learned,” she said.
Seniors recognized
    As part of the 6-12 concert Monday this week, the band director recognized the CCS seniors who will be graduating this weekend.
    Director Agnes Strand introduced Peyton Dubas, who played trumpet/flugelhorn and was awarded the Band Directors Award; Dawson Mollendor, euphonium/valve trombone, who received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award; and Kayla Chavira, alto sax, and Alejandra Castillo, percussion, who shared the John Philip Sousa Award.
