Parrish named WP medal winner at RPAC Art Contest

An acrylic painting titled “Woman” by Kate Parrish was chosen as Wauneta-Palisade’s medal winner at last week’s RPAC Art Contest in Cambridge.
Parrish also earned first honorable mention with the acrylic painting “Feathers” and third honorable mention with the acrylic painting “Touch.”
Sofia Alfayo took second honorable mention with her watercolor painting “ “Lost in the Gardens Trance.”
These four works will be part of the traveling art show that moves from school to school. WP had the artwork until Wednesday when it will be transported to Benkelman.
Overall, WP art teacher Danny Schluckebier took 12 works total. Parrish provided seven of the pieces and Alfayo took two. Mandy Sandoval, Ryleigh McCrumb and Peyton Cox each had one piece shown.
“We have some great kids and creative minds at school and I am happy I can help them create,” Schluckebier said.
Schluckebier said he felt like his students provided very good artwork.
“My kids take their creativity very seriously and are always creating better and more advanced artwork,” Schluckebier said, adding the RPAC contest is a great way to kick of the art show season.
“I am very excited to continue taking art to student shows and remind myself why I love my job, getting to create art alongside my students and showing them sometimes how to make cool stuff,” he added.
Out of all the medal winners, Alma’s Jonah Felix received Best of Show for his acrylic painting.
