New teacher follows dream career with WP Schools

■ Editor’s note: This is the first of a series of articles spotlighting new teachers at CCS and WP Schools for the 2023-24 school year.
Errin Willson hails from Quinter, Kansas where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1990. She began her position this fall as a 4th grade teacher at the Palisade Attendance Center as part of the Wauneta-Palisade Public School system.
Willson has an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Programming, a Bachelor of Management Information Systems 2001, and she is working toward a Master of Education.
Since 2010, she has been involved in teaching as a substitute teacher, an intervention tutor, but mostly teaching 2nd and 3rd grades.
“I have always wanted to be a teacher, but life kept getting in the way. I am very excited to be doing my dream job now,” Willson said.
She said her goal as a teacher is to inspire students and let them know they can do anything they set their minds to achieving. She added that she aspires to use the Bain teaching techniques which teaches the child to use methods that keep them engaged and learning using disciplinary thinking.
“I love being able to see a struggling student succeed and understand so they can move up their level of learning, becoming more in line with their peers,” she said.
When not wearing her teaching hat, Willson loves creating wood items such as laser cut earrings, wood cut designs and home décor. She also makes epoxy tumblers, earrings and other items.
“I enjoy creating vinyl signs and decals, as well,” she added.
Willson’s husband, Lee, is a native Nebraskan, and they have four children between them.
