Jr. high students capture two golds, superiors at contest

    A group of junior high school students from Chase County Schools made their way to Arapahoe April 1 to compete in both vocal and instrumental events in the Arapahoe/Cambridge 5-8 Music Contest.
    Two students took gold—8th grader James Adle for his trumpet solo, and who was coached by Joel Grosbach, head of Zion Lutheran Music Ministry, and Cadence Lambert for a flute solo. She was coached by her grandmother Lambert, a retired band teacher.
    All other CCS students received the top rating of superior for their entries:
    Trumpet trio—Alexa Alarcon, Adan Mireles, James Adle;
    Tuba solo—Kaden McArthur;
    Euphonium solo—Kyson Vogt;
    Vocal solos—Alayna Smith, Cadence Lambert;
    Vocal trio—Allyssa Davis, Jade Cook, Violet Sparrow;
    Vocal trio—Cadence Lambert, Alayna Smith, Gabriella Schaufenbuel;
    Men’s ensemble—Dylan Miscles, Slade Stolz, Zak Anderson, Destry Oxford, Aidan Tomky, Aiden Dockery.
    Directors David Rushing and Agnes Strand said there was a snafu in scheduling and they could only take a fraction of the entries they had hoped to take.
    “So, we are looking forward to the 2024 contests where those students can join us to shine,” Rushing said.
