Sawyer Sauder won first place for ag literacy at this year’s district in Curtis..

Imperial FFA teams come home as champions at districts

The Imperial FFA competed in the district LDE (Leadership Development Events) on Dec. 12, 2023 in Curtis, Nebraska. Two teams also competed in the Conduct of Chapter Meetings (CCM) event, meant to serve as a simplified demonstration on how to use parliamentary procedure to run a meeting. Team No. 1, comprised of students Aidan Tomky, Tate Teply, Braxton Chubb, Avery Beemer, Kadence Wallin, Lukas Fries and Dietrich Pursley, emerged as champions. The runner up Team No. 2 included Alyana Smith, Taylor Maddux, Violet Sparrow, Gabriella Schaufenbuel, Sawyer Sauder, Zak Anderson and Conner Stromberger.
Other competitions that took place were Discovery Speaking, Ag Literacy Speaking and Employment Skills. Sawyer Sauder won the district championship for Ag Literacy. Alyssa Davis won for Discovery Speaking and Peyton Owens and Malachi Christensen won for Employment Skills. All won red ribbons.
The second round for CCM, centered around speeches and parliamentary law, will take place on Jan. 17 and the second District Career Development Event takes place on Feb. 7, both in Curtis. On Feb. 19, the district’s welding competition will take place in McCook. Both CCM teams and Sauder will be moving on to compete at the state level in Lincoln on April 3-5.
