Hanna earns second in welding for WP’s FFA

Not only did six Wauneta-Palisade seniors receive their State Degrees at the State FFA Convention April 6-8, Garrett Hanna placed second overall in the Oxy Acetylene Welding competition.
When Hanna was announced as runner up, Advisor Tana Engel said chapter members were the loudest she had ever seen.
Chapter members were enjoyed experiencing the convention in person again, said Engel.
“Many of them met new people from other chapters and got some ideas of how to make our chapter grow in ways that they wouldn’t have thought of without the outside perspectives,” Engel said.
Hanna was one of the six to receive their State Degrees. Other chapter members to walk across the stage were Trace Bley, Colby Hoskovec, Aidan Kennicutt, Wyatt Muths and Grant Walker.
Overall, WP took 23 students to the convention. Competing were teams in Agronomy, Environmental and Natural Resources, Farm and Agribusiness Management, Meats Evaluation and Welding.
Engel, Scott Kennicutt and Danny Schluckebier accompanied the group.
Allison Sandman took a group of six junior high students to their competition in Quiz Bowl.
Greenhouse opens
The WP FFA greenhouse opened Tuesday and will be open after school most days until 6:30 p.m.
On Saturdays and Sundays, the greenhouse will be open 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Updates will be posted on the chapter Facebook page.
Engel said the greenhouse is full with a large selection of hanging baskets, potting plants, house plants and vegetables.
“Students in my ag classes have been hard at work in the greenhouse for the past few months,” Engel said.
