FFA chapters at Imperial, WP place in Feb. 2 CDE contests

Two more Imperial teams will be competing at the state FFA convention in April after district CDE competition in Curtis Feb. 2.
FFA Advisor Jason Speck said the following Imperial teams qualified in last week’s contests:
Ag Mechanics, 4th, red ribbon, team members: Conner Tyerman, blue; Ryan Bernhardt, blue; Westyn Mendenhall, blue; and Morel Jurado, white.
Agronomy, 5th, red ribbon, team members: Markenna Terryberry, red; Matalie Wallin, red, Remington Yaw, white, and Kendall Prior.
The top five Ag Mechanics  teams from districts qualify for state. Speck said the Agronomy competition is an open one at state. However, only if his teams are in the top five at districts does he takes them to Lincoln.
Also competing last week was the Imperial FFA Nursery and Landscape team, which placed 5th earning a red ribbon. Team members included Jordan Jablonski, red; Jecca Yaw, Peyten Buckley and Kayla Chavira. Also competing was Michael McBride, who earned a red ribbon.
Also at the Feb. 2 district contests, Wauneta-Palisade’s FFA chapter sent teams competing in Vet Science, which finished 6th; BioTech placing 7th; and Ag Mechanics, which earned 8th, said Advisor Tara Engel.
Other upcoming district FFA contests include livestock judging this Thursday in Valentine, welding Feb. 21 and on March 2—ag sales, floriculture, meats, food science, livestock management and poultry.
FFA State Degree interviews were scheduled Wednesday this week in McCook.
Three FFA members with one applying for Star planned to interview from the Imperial chapter, while WP Advisor Engel said seven WP seniors were to interview for state degrees.
The Nebraska State FFA Convention is April 6-8 in Lincoln and will be an in-person event this year, after the past two conventions were held virtually due to COVID.
