FFA chapter at WP celebrates year’s successes

Supporters of the Wauneta-Palisade FFA chapter gathered in the WP gym Monday evening to enjoy a recap of the chapter’s year.
The banquet had been planned for Friday, but as fires sprung up around southwest Nebraska, the decision was made to postpone the event until Monday.
Honorary Chapter Degrees were awarded to advisor Danny Schluckebier, Scott Kennicutt and Bill Bischoff.
Discovery Degrees went to Bobby Chism, Maggie DeWester, Lilian Dinnel, McKenna Doetker, Kameran McCrumb, Konner McCrumb, Cheyene Parrish, Noah Sandman, Konnor Shifflet and Casey Walker.
Awarded Greenhand Degrees were Kalli Hoskovec, Lilian Sandoval, Izabelle Stehno and Grayden Sutherland. K. Hoskovec received the Star Greenhand.
Six seniors received their State Degree during the convention earlier in April—Trace Bley, Garrett Hanna, Colby Hoskovec, Aidan Kennicutt, Wyatt Muths and Grant Walker.
The chapter also recognized nearly 30 individuals and businesses with Appreciation Awards.
Receiving Leadership Awards were freshman Justin Warembourg, sophomore Mandy Sandoval, junior Kyle Jutten and senior C. Hoskovec.
Community Service Awards went to freshman Sandoval, sophomore Trey McCrumb, junior Sydney Acton and Bley.
Also recognized were Scholarship Award winners freshman Sutherland, sophomore Peyton Cox, junior Chloe Stehno and Hanna.
Jutten was announced as the chapter’s president for the 2022-2023 school year. Other officers for the upcoming year will be Mandy Sandoval, vice president; Cox, secretary; GraCee Goings, reporter; Ryleigh McCrumb, treasurer; Sutherland, sentinel; and Warembourg, parliamentarian.
Results from the state convention were also recapped.
Peyton Cox received a red ribbon and Kalli Hoskovec a white ribbon in natural resources. Other team members were C. Stehno and M. Sandoval.
In meats evaluation, Wyatt Muths earned a red ribbon and Sutherland a white ribbon. Also on the team were Kennicutt and Warembourg.
Along with Garrett Hanna’s second place overall finish in oxyacetylene welding, Bley earned a red ribbon in TIG welding. Other welders were Derik Kennicutt, ARC, and C. Hoskovec, MIG.
Members of the state qualifying agronomy team were Miner, Jutten, T. McCrumb and Hoyte Holmes.
Qualifying in farm and agribusiness management were Cali Cox, Peyton Vrbas, Sydnee Acton and M. Sandoval.
The evening wrapped up with the chapter’s annual Labor Auction, led by auctioneer Ryan Large. Twenty-four students and advisor Tana Engel, as well as two planters of flowers donated by Amy Prior, were auctioned.
