Chase County Schools in search of new 7-12 principal

CCS board of education members will be pounding the pavement again for a new administrator.
Grade 7-12 Principal Mike Sorensen tendered his resignation, effective the end of the current school year. His contract runs through the end of June.
Sorensen is completing his second year at Chase County Schools. He was hired in 2020, returning after working as CCS principal previously for nine years from 2006-15.
Before his latest tenure here, Sorensen served as Asst. Principal/Activities Director at Grand Island Northwest.
He returned to CCS two years ago after his wife Nancy accepted the elementary principal’s job at Perkins County Schools in Grant. She continues in that position.
Two years ago, Sorensen replaced Jon Lechtenberg, who also served as 7-12 Principal for two years.
Sorensen said, “It was time,” when asked about his reasons for resigning. He told staff at the school Feb. 11.
“I’ve enjoyed my time here between the teachers and kids— that’s why I came back. But it’s time to move on,” he said.
Sorensen said he has accepted a position at Wauneta-Palisade Schools, where he will serve as 7-12 Principal, Activities Director and Transportation Director.
He will replace Rod Gaston in the WP position.
In addition to Sorensen’s administrative duties, he was a CCS assistant high school football coach last season.
The CCS board will formally act on Sorensen’s resignation at the March 8 meeting.
