CCS organizations, classes running concessions this year

Concession stands at Chase County Schools activities will have a different look this year.
School board members discussed the change at their Aug. 9 meeting among a host of other topics a week before the start of the 2022-23 school year.
The POM-POMs and PTO organizations will no longer be operating the concession stands. This year, the work will be distributed between various classes and organizations at the school, said Supt. Adam Lambert.
He shared a preliminary schedule he had set up with board members.
“It will be spread out among school organizations and classes. Each one will be a fundraiser for that club or class,” he said this week.
Difficulty in recruiting volunteers contributed to PTO and POM-POMS not renewing their leases to run the stands, he said.
Jordan Beard was hired to oversee the concession stand inventory and will be ordering food items and supplies, Lambert added. Some new equipment has also been ordered.
Board considering
early bond repayment
The board took the first step toward paying off the bond still owed on the swimming pool, concession stand and parking lot CCS built together with the city of Imperial.
To move forward, a meeting with the Imperial Facilities Agency Committee will need to be held, and CCS will need to gain approval from the city to do so, Lambert said.
CCS still owes $262,000 in principal and interest. The school received between $850,000 and $900,000 in COVID funds over the past two years, Lambert noted, which have been used in areas where general budget dollars would have been spent. With those savings, that freed up money to make the early bond repayment possible, he said.
In other action, the board discussed pay rates for non-CDL bus drivers at CCS. Lambert noted two new mini busses have been ordered for the school, for which a CDL license is not required to operate. Those drivers will be paid $10 less per route than the CDL license holders, based on Lambert’s recommendation.
In other action, the board reviewed and approved annual policies on student attendance and multicultural programming.
A special meeting to pay off outstanding bills for the 2021-22 school year was set for Aug. 30 at 7 a.m. in the board room.
