CCS musicians bring home hardware from districts

Chase County music students brought home some of the hardware from last Thursday’s District V Music Contest in McCook.
Directors David Rushing, vocal, and Agnes Strand, instrumental could take up to 46 entries to the Class C competition.
Among the group, the school’s 9th St. Singers and the high school mixed concert choir both gained three superior ratings for all three judges so earned NSAA plaques.
In addition, soloist Brendan Pump and the vocal duet of Krista Meeske and Athziry Valenzuela were presented the Outstanding Performance Award. Judges chose their vocal performances as the top in their category.
Two performances—the vocal duet by Tessa Smith and Navy Havel and the men’s vocal ensemble of Kevin Dannatt, Juan de la Fuente, Brendan Pump, Mason Tyerman, Beau Weiss and Andrew Wiest—earned Outstanding Performance honorable mention.
Besides those top honors, CCS musicians also earned 10 other superior, or 1 ratings. Eight others gained excellent ratings, or a 2.
The directors expressed thanks to Rob Browning, who provided keyboard accompaniment during the contest, and to Aragorn Green, who played the trap set for the 9th St. Singers.
