CCS junior at state speech

The Chase County Schools speech team has wrapped up another season.
Brayan Cazares placed third at district finals which qualified him to go to the state speech competition in Kearney March 17.
Cazares placed 10th at state in Serious Prose. His piece was titled “The Blind Fortune Teller” by Jeffrey G. Hunt, and was a cutting from an episode of the TV series Gotham.
“I am extremely proud of Brayan. He worked tirelessly on his program this year, and his efforts paid off. He had a very nice showing at state and gained some great experience. I am so excited to see what next season will bring Brayan and my other speakers,” said Speech Coach Alexandria Schilke.
She said she’s also proud of Mason Tyerman’s efforts in Persuasive speech as he placed sixth at districts, but it wasn’t high enough for state qualification.
“I am so proud of all my speakers—Brayan, Mason, Annika McDaniel and Kobe Norman. They have gained confidence, improved their preparation skills and reached unparalleled heights in their speaking ability,” she added.
“Seeing the growth the students made during the season is truly the best part of being their coach,” said Schilke.
She also thanked Erin Konecky and Jill Bauerle.
“These two women graciously listened and provided feedback to my students on more than one occasion. I am so glad that they were willing to use their expertise to provide aid to the team,” she added.
Schilke said her students were always excited to compete, and it showed in their results from week to week.
