CCS hosts district FCCLA, qualifies six events for state

On Jan. 31, eight students from Chase County Schools participated in the Nebraska Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America District 11 STAR Event Competition. This year’s annual event was held at Chase County Schools and featured 35 competitors from southwest Nebraska.
One competitive event available to FCCLA members is STAR Events: Students Taking Action with Recognition. STAR Events recognize members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through cooperative, individualized, and competitive activities. District 11 hosted 14 events during the conference.
Students are evaluated by judges using a rubric system and have the opportunity to earn a Gold, Silver or Bronze rating. The top two finishers in each event level, who earn a Silver or Gold rating, qualify to compete at the state competition, which will be hosted as part of the State Leadership Conference. Eight students from the Chase County Schools Chapter advanced to the state competition in six events.
Tristen Stumpff was a gold medalist for her Say Yes to FCS project.
Brittany Ayala Valdez and Ashley Cazeres qualified with a silver medal in Entrepreneurship.
Esmeralda Medrano Flores also earned a silver medal in Event Management and qualified for state competition.
Jasmin Jenkins and Marley Randall teamed up in Focus on Children for a silver medal and state berth.
