CCS first day classes moved to Thursday

First day of classes for the 2022-23 school year at Chase County Schools was moved to Thursday this week.
Originally scheduled to start Wednesday, CCS Supt. Adam Lambert said with Char Wallin’s funeral taking place Wednesday morning, he made the decision to move the start of classes back one day.
He said a lot of school personnel were planning to attend the funeral.
“The first day of school is extremely important in establishing routines and expectations,” he said.
“That is ultimately why I made the decision to move the first day of school so there would be no disruption in establishing those routines and expectations,” he said.
Lambert said Aug. 17 is still considered a contract day for all staff and they were expected to report to school and put in for leave if they attended the funeral.
Tuesday’s open house at CCS took place on schedule, when students and parents met teachers and located classrooms and lockers.
Char Wallin’s husband, Steve, is a CCS school board member, and, on occasion, she was a CCS substitute teacher. Their oldest child, Matalie, graduated this spring, while two other children, Mason, a junior, and Kadence, in eighth grade, are CCS students.
