CCS expects a great season after hosting the first speech invitational

Speech season officially started on Jan. 7 at the Chase County speech invitational competition with students from Perkins County and Sutherland.
This year’s season is seeing many changes on the team.
Alex Schilke, 7-8 English teacher and speech coach, asked high school English teacher, Jill Bauerle, to help co-coach this season.
“She was the speech coach before I came and taught here, but with me expecting a baby in the middle of March, I reached out to her and asked her if she would be my co-coach,” Schilke said.
The number of students on the speech team has increased drastically compared to last year.
“While, yes, our numbers have increased, which is an awesome thing, I’m very grateful, too, for those kids who are coming back,” Schilke said.
Chase County placed second as a team behind Perkins County. Other teams competing were Hershey, North Platte St. Pat’s and Sutherland.
Leading the way was the trio of George Colton Andrew Wiest and Zach Herbert with a first place finish in Oral Interpretation of Drama.
Jasmine Johnson and Aragorn Green were second and fourth, respectively, in Oral Interpretation of Poetry.
Brayan Cazares claimed second place and Iris Robles was fourth in Serious Prose.
Zach Herbert placed third in Informative Speaking.
Annika McDaniel was fourth and Kobe Norman, seventh, in Entertainment Speaking.
Paige Nickless took sixth place in Oral Interpretation of Humorous Prose.
Kathya Aragon and Kylee Wiest were 11th in Duet Acting.
CCS had three entries in Persuasive Speaking. Brayan Cazares placed third, Katelyn Stamm fourth and Jayme Gittlein took seventh.
