A walk through Maw Maw’s Attic

    Her grandchildren call  her Maw Maw, so when Elania Fanning decided to open a shop in Imperial, the name seemed to fit.
    Maw Maw’s Attic held a grand opening Saturday at its location at 1320 Broadway Suite 20. Fanning said a sign marking the location will be up soon.
    At present the store’s front door is marked by a rack of clothing and some baby paraphernalia.    
    Maw Maw’s Attic sells gently used items such as small home appliances, children and infant items, crocheted goods, jewelry, and “a little bit of everything,” Fanning smiled.
    The unique store smells wonderful when one enters. That’s due to the Pink Zebra Home Fragrance candles.
    Most of the inventory comes from things Fanning doesn’t use any more. “I want to get my feet on the ground, and then start to take consignments,” she commented.
    She receives new items every week.
    Fanning carries a brand new stock of t-shirts. She uses a heat press with “tons of designs and decals” to create the shirts. Soon she will add a sublimation printer, and will offer custom t-shirts.
    A day care provider for eight years, Fanning did a lot of computer research and talking with friends and family about second-hand stores before opening Maw Maw’s Attic.
    I want it to be comfy and cozy,” Fanning said. That feeling includes a welcoming pot of coffee inside the front door.
    With no experience in retail, Fanning is “just winging it.” She was helped in her decision to open the store by life-long friend Julie Pflum, who opened Rustic Nails just next door.
    Maw Maw’s hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Wednesday noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
