Stratton’s Kent Lorens elected Wheat Board ‘21-22 vice-chairman

    At its Aug. 24 meeting in North Platte, the Nebraska Wheat Board conducted a swearing-in of Kent Lorens and Jared Sayer as representatives of Districts 4 and 5, respectively.
    Also, Mark Knobel of Fairbury was elected NWB chairman for 2021-2022. He was reappointed to the board in 2019 by Gov. Pete Ricketts and represents District 6.
    Knobel raises wheat, soybeans and corn in southeastern Nebraska and is a certified seed dealer. He has hosted numerous trade teams at his farm. He has also served on other boards including the Nebraska Crop Improvement Association, Nebraska Farm Bureau and the Nebraska FFA Association.
    Lorens of Stratton was elected NWB vice-chairman for the coming year. He’s served on the board for five years.
    Lorens and his family have been farming in the Stratton area since 1986. They primarily raise wheat while also maintaining a cow/calf herd.
    Lorens is also an active leader on the NWB, currently sitting on the Food Aid Committee. He has travelled internationally to promote Nebraska wheat on the world market.
    Along with his NWB service, Lorens sits on the local school board, the Hitchcock County Farm Bureau and holds leadership roles in his church.
    Lorens and Knobel will serve through June 2022.
