Still time to sign up for no-till field day

Wine Glass Ranch, north of Imperial, hosting event June 20

No-till farming has a basic goal.
It is simply the act of disturbing the soil as little as possible, without tillage, to plant, grow and harvest a crop.
A field day at Wine Glass Ranch, north of Imperial, next week will be a day of learning, networking and hands-on demonstrations on the benefits of this soil health practice.
Aaron Sawyers is director of the No-Till on the Plains organization which is coordinating the June 20 field day at Wine Glass Ranch.
“We all have to do better with our resources,” Sawyers said.
“And it starts with the soil. We can correct a lot of problems if we start there,” he said.
Registration remains open for the field day, which will feature a number of local speakers and a USDA/NRSC expert from Kansas. A tour to see crops and native range at Wine Glass will conclude the day’s events, if weather permits.
Lunch is included on the schedule, sponsored by Nutrien.
Sawyers said farmers and ranchers in the area can continue to register online until June 19 at 5 p.m. After that, people can register at the ranch that day if numbers haven’t been capped, he said.
Registration information can be found at notill.org/events.
Sawyers said a grant from Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture & Education is helping fund next week’s field day.
