Local drivers see gas prices drop below $4

    Gas prices at pumps in Imperial dropped below the $4 mark the past week.
    Unleaded gas at Kwik Stop was advertised for $3.96, FV Coop listed unleaded at $3.99. The latter offers a 3-cent discount with its gas card.
    Even with the latest drop, prices in Imperial are still above Nebraska’s average price this week of $3.68/gallon, according to GasBuddy’s weekly survey of 1,150 stations in the state.
    The latest average price is 60.5 cents a gallon lower than a month ago, but it’s still 67.7 cents higher than last year at this time.
    According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Nebraska was selling unleaded at $2.99 while the most expensive was $4.79, or a range of $1.80.
    Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said the falling unleaded prices have been consistent for about 10 weeks.
    The national average price of diesel also declined 6.3 cents in the last week and stands at $4.97 a gallon on average.
    The average price of diesel dropped below $5 a gallon for the first time since March.
    In Imperial, the diesel price Monday was $4.96 at Kwik Stop and $4.99 at coop.
