Great opportunity for local dry bean producers through UNL Extension

In collaboration with the Nebraska Dry Bean Commission, the Nebraska Extension is looking for local dry bean growers who are interested in being a part of the Nebraska On-Farm Research Network.
The Nebraska Dry Bean Commission—based in Scottsbluff—is committed to assisting bean farmers increase their production and propel the dry bean industry forward. The NE Dry Bean Commission was founded in 1987 and consists of “six growers and three dry bean processor representatives.” They have paired up with the UNL Extension office to research different dry bean varieties and management techniques.
The Nebraska Extension “brings University of Nebraska expertise and research … to Nebraskans from all walks of life.” The NE Extension aims to connect the research and resources of the University of Nebraska with the people of Nebraska.
Currently, the Nebraska Extension office is looking for 2-3 producers in the southwest Nebraska area who would like to participate in on-farm research. This study will take place during the 2024 growing season and potentially the 2025 growing season, as well.
Local dry bean producers are encouraged to reach out if they have certain products, management techniques or any other ideas that they would like to try out with their own crop.
Those who are interested or would like more information should reach out to Samantha Daniel at Samantha.daniel@unl.edu or call 308-352-4340.
