Downpayment, closing cost aid for home-buyers offered

Southwest Nebraska Community Betterment Corporation, a non-profit organization in Grant, is leading a cooperative effort to provide down payment/closing cost assistance to home-buyers using funding through the Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund, provided by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.
The housing program, referred to as Down Payment/Closing Cost Assistance, will be offered within the incorporated communities in Perkins, Chase, Dundy, Hitchcock, Hayes and Keith counties and the city of McCook.
This is an income-based program. The DPA grant will be a 50% forgivable and 50% deferred loan at 0% interest to be paid back to SWNCBC when the house is no longer the buyer’s principal residence.
SWNCBC will offer homebuyers up to $15,000 to those who qualify.  The final amount of assistance given depends on the amount the lender requires and cannot exceed 20% of the purchase price of the home.  SWNCBC also partners with other organizations to assist homebuyers.
All homebuyers are required to take a homebuyer education class. SWNCBC offers an online class at  ehomeamerica.org. Spanish classes are also available on the site.
Applications are now being taken for the program, and can be picked up at the SWNCBC office at 115 W. 3rd Street in Grant, online at www.south westne.com or you can e-mail swassistant@gpcom.net and request that an application be mailed.
Interested parties may also call SWNCBC at 308-352-4338 for an application or more information.
