The Corner Store in Champion plans to add more in weeks ahead

After being open about a month now, The Corner Store in Champion is already looking to add more services to the small convenience store.
Located at Champion’s east entrance, about 7 miles southwest of Imperial, the newly-built store is owned by Maddi Brown and her parents Dave and Jacci Brown.
Maddi Brown is managing the store, which began serving the public with a “soft opening” in early January.
The store features basics including bread, milk and eggs, along with a line of snacks, candy, tobacco products, soft drinks, coffee and breakfast sandwiches.
Customers can choose from a range of beer from the store’s walk-in cooler. The store also sells a line of alcohol and mixers.
Maddi said, in the coming weeks, they will be adding homemade breakfast burritos and tamales, and have plans for a hot lunch special that will be different each day.
Another addition coming soon will be a drive-up window on the north side of the building, where people can pick up orders or “just buy a candy bar if they want,” she said.
Outdoor signage is to be added soon, as well.
Business has been good, Maddi said.
“It’s going pretty well especially with opening in the dead of winter,” she said. “I’m happy with how it’s been going.”
Maddi was a 2020 graduate of Chase County Schools and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a year and a half. She returned home to the family farm where she continues to work in the cattle and farming operation, along with managing the store.
The store is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. More hours are anticipated during the summer months, she said.
