Annie Sieperda, left, has sold the Imperial laundromat to Sergio and Lorena Almanza. The sale was finalized Feb. 21.

Almanzas purchase laundromat in Imperial; name change ahead

After 17 years, Annie Sieperda will have a little less responsibility now that she has sold JohNnie’s Laundromat at the corner of 4th and Court Streets.
Sergio and Lorena Almanza, under their business name SeLoCySe Courts LLC, assumed ownership Feb. 21.
A name change is likely in the works, the Almanzas said, but they haven’t decided on one yet.
Mrs. Almanza will be handling the day-to-day business details such as collecting the money, while Almanza said he’ll be handling the maintenance. Both will be on hand for nightly cleaning and weekend tasks.
One of the first upgrades they plan is placing posts in front of the parking spots. They also plan to replace the washing machines that are not working right now, he said.
The Almanzas keep busy in their other businesses.
Lorena has a cleaning business and said she has 20-24 residential and commercial customers.
They own the SeLoCySe Court at the south edge of Imperial, as well as a number of other rental properties, keeping Sergio busy with maintenance and other details.
They said they purchased the laundromat as an investment and look forward to serving the community.
“This is a good place to come to and a service needed in the community,” Sergio said.
Annie Sieperda and her late husband, John, purchased the laundromat in 2006. After his death, she operated the business herself the past seven years.
After they purchased the business, the Sieperdas doubled its dryer capacity and nearly doubled the washers, she said. Some remodeling was done indoors, as well.
Annie, who also worked as a para-professional for many years at Chase County Schools, left that position six years ago to contribute more time to the laundromat.
Now that it’s been sold, she said it gives her more time to visit her six children and families, which include nine grandchildren.
