Tom Anderson, the son of Clarence (Andy) and Janice Anderson was born in Imperial, Nebraska. Tom joined us on July 17th, in “the summer of ‘69” and left us on Dec. 15, 2022 at his home in Madrid at the age of 53.
Tom attended the Imperial Elementary School and graduated from Chase County High School in 1988.
Tom joined the US Army Signal Corps in 1991. He served in Okinawa, Japan, San Diego, California and Ft. Irwin, California. He was very proud of his service to our country as so many of his brothers and father before him. Tom carried that courage and respect over into his daily life serving his community also, especially The American Legion and Fire Department in Madrid, where he settled in 2012 while building upon his dream of owning his own lumber yard and also honoring his family’s name. Hanging that name “Anderson Lumber” over the entry of the door that would lead you to Tom’s dream of following his father’s footsteps.
Tom leaned into his hugs and you could tell that every ounce of his giant soul was good hearted and genuine. His vision was wider than most of our windows allowed us to let in. He tried as best as he could to frame his life and love of his business, his beliefs while staying humble and proud. I’m sure he’s laughing with his brothers Billy and Brian by now and also Mom and Dad smiling...making room for him at the table.
Tom is survived by Mike (Julie) Anderson of Cheyenne, Wyoming, David Anderson of Brighton, Colorado, Carol Harchelroad of North Platte, Cindy (Doug) Styskal of Longmont, Colorado, Scott Anderson of Brighton, Colorado, Phyllis (Scott) Parker of Waterloo, Bryce (Angel) Anderson of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Eric (Ronny) Anderson of Keaau, Hawaii, Melissa (Adam) Hawthorne of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and many nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be donated to The American Legion, Hilton-Flaming Post 271, Madrid.
There will be a Funeral Service (family only) with full Military Honors to be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 10 a.m. CT. A public celebration of Tom’s life will be held following services at the City Hall in Madrid from 12-2 p.m. MT.
Liewer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
