Patty Hughes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Patty Hughes, a cherished wife, devoted mother, and doting grandmother. She departed this world on June 22, 2023, surrounded by her family, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering dedication.
Patty was born to Calvin and Edith (Radcliffe) Hill on April 26, 1945 in Imperial, Nebraska. Patty attended Chase County High School in Imperial, followed by some time in nursing school before marrying and embarking on a lifetime journey of homemaking, motherhood and grandmother-hood in Greeley.
Patty is survived by her four children and their spouses, Christopher and Stephanie Hughes, Dean and Jennifer Hughes, Tricia Hughes and Shane Oshetski and April and Mike Kinninger; eight grandchildren Nick, Tristan, Jack, Zach, Brandon, Owen, Jake and AJ; sister Penny Teply; sisters-in-law Marilyn Luther and Linda Miller; and brothers-in-law Larry Hughes, Clayton Luther and David Teply.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Hughes and parents Edith and Calvin Hill.
Patty celebrated an incredible 55 years of marriage, a testament to her commitment and unwavering devotion to her beloved husband, Bill. Their journey was one filled with love, resilience, and cherished memories. Together, they weathered life’s storms, and provided a solid foundation for their children. They traveled extensively through Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Greenland, and a memorable trip through the Panama Canal. Patty embraced her role as a homemaker with grace and warmth. She had a nurturing spirit and spunky nature. Patty found immeasurable joy in witnessing her children’s education and achievements, finding solace in the knowledge that she had played a role in their lives. But perhaps the greatest joy in Patty’s life was being a grandmother. She delighted in the laughter, innocence, and boundless energy of her eight grandchildren, creating treasured moments that will forever be etched in their hearts.
In her free time, Patty was an ardent lover of the game of bridge. She actively participated in several bridge groups and social gatherings, where she could share her knowledge and enthusiasm with others. Patty volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) to advocate for youth who have been abused and/or neglected. Patty was also a passionate advocate of literature who cherished the power of reading. She was a Great Books leader and hoped to instill a love for reading that would accompany children throughout their lives.
