Orville “Jerry” Jerome Oxford

Orville “Jerry” Jerome Oxford, 80, of Oconto, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023 at the Callaway District Hospital.
He was born Aug. 9, 1942 in Broken Bow, Custer County to Clarence and Katharine (Gibson) Oxford. Waiting at home for Jerry was big brother, Gene.
Jerry attended country school and school in Oconto. He was proud to be an Oconto Tiger. He graduated from Oconto High School with the Class of 1960. Following graduation, Jerry worked for several farmers including Les Horn and Monroe’s in Cozad. Jerry learned the skill of operating heavy equipment. Highway 21 between Oconto and Lexington was being built Jerry joined the crew, using his heavy equipment skills. He was also involved in a Kiewit project building interstate I-80 across Nebraska. He built a career while employed with the Custer County roads department operating the motor grader until his retirement. The 901 Ford tractor was his favorite he would bale hay in the evenings and weekends. Jerry had a love for red Chevy Impalas. He raised Duroc hogs and had a couple of pet peacocks. You could find Jerry sitting on the porch petting a dog or cat. I think his favorite were kittens. Tomatoes and vegetables were grown in his garden, he was always willing to share his bountiful crop. Jerry was a dedicated KRVN fan, he enjoyed listening to the old county music.
Jerry was a member of the Army National Guard Broken Bow Unit. He attended training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In the summer of 1966, he married Tierney Caulfield. To this union were born two children: Tony and Tresa. They later divorced.
Survivors include, Tony (Stephanie)Wright, Owen and Collin, of Merna, Tresa (Steve) Bass, Ty and Cooper of Dunning; siblings, Gene and LaVonne Oxford of Broken Bow, Sheridan Griffith of Broken Bow and David and Linda (deceased) Oxford of Enders; numerous nieces and nephews; not only was Clayton Oxford a cousin, but he was also a true friend.
Preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Katharine (Gibson) Oxford; nephew, Richard Lewis Oxford; sister-in-law, Linda L. Oxford; great nephews, Lucas Heusman and Zachary Heusman and great niece, Samantha Oxford.
Cremation has been chosen.
A private burial service will be held at the Oconto Cemetery on April 8, 2023.
A celebration of life will be held that day on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Oconto Community Building. Fellowship for friends and family with cookies and coffee will follow the service.
Honorary pallbearers are Eugene Oxford, Jim Oxford, Valarie Oxford, Bryan Oxford, Shelley Houser, Susan Porter, Jesse Houser, Jason Griffith, Dave Oxford and Chad Oxford.
