Mava Jane Hurd was born March 7, 1931, at Haxtun, Colorado, to Frank R. and Eleanor M. (Seaman) Schultz. As a youngster she grew up and attended school in Imperial, graduating from Chase County High School in 1948. She continued her education attending Colorado Women’s College, in Denver, Colorado.
Mava Jane married Ralph Clayton Hurd in July of 1949, in Haxtun, Colorado, and the couple settled in Imperial. Mava Jane assisted Ralph in his construction contracting business and together they owned and operated Hurd’s Café and Steakhouse on Broadway Street in Imperial for many years.
Mava Jane was a member of the Episcopal Church, and the local Eagles Aerie. She served on the Imperial Library Board, and the local Freedoms Foundation. Mava Jane enjoyed crafting, playing bridge, and she especially loved to cook.
Mava Jane passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. She was 90 years of age.
Survivors include daughter, Mava Jane Hurd of Gallantin Gateway, Montana; three grandchildren, Giselle Izzo, Chase Izzo, and Mava Jane Izzo; five great-grandchildren.
Mava Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph, in 2018; and her half-brother, Joe Schultz.
As per Mava Jane’s wishes, cremation was chosen with no services at this time.
