Loren Leroy Brown, age 87, of McCook, Nebraska, formerly of Palisade, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Kinship Pointe in McCook.
Loren was born June 1, 1936 in Lewiston. In May 1941, Loren was adopted by Roy and Iona Brown from the Nebraska Children’s Home in Lincoln.
Loren attended school in Palisade through the 8th Grade. He graduated high school in 1953 from the Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis. The following September, 1954, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Along with serving stateside, Loren served overseas in Iceland, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Okinawa. Proudly serving his country, he was awarded three Air Force Commendation Medals and the Meritorious Service Award before retiring as an SMSgt (E-8) in September 1974.
On Jan. 18, 1958, Loren married the love of his life, Lois E. (Silver) Brown at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. The couple became the proud parents of two children: Lorna and Lyle. The family supported Loren’s career in the Air Force, living in many different communities over the years.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Loren fulfilled a lifelong dream by returning to the family farm and ranch in Palisade. Loren became a licensed pilot in 1986 and along with farming and ranching, considered it to be one of his favorite hobbies. He was always willing to lend a hand and played an active role in the remodel of Trinity Lutheran Church in Palisade as well as servicing as chairman of the church board and treasurer. Loren also served several terms on the Palisade School Board. He and Lois moved to McCook in 1995. Loren again retired in 2005.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law John Brandt.
Those left to celebrate his life include his wife Lois Brown of McCook; son Lyle Brown of Casa Grande, Arizona; daughter Lorna Brown of Mitchell; sister Barbara Brandt of Ogallala; and his three grandchildren, Bryan Myers and Myrah Brown, both of McCook, and Whitney Brown of Curtis.

Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church, McCook, with Pastor Lonnie Felcher officiating. The service will be live streamed on Peace Lutheran’s Facebook or Youtube channel.
Private family burial will take place in the Palisade Cemetery at a later date.
