LaVonne Gail Jaeger was born on July 5, 1951, in Wray, Colorado to Gilbert A. and Violet V. (Trembly) Smith. She graduated from Haigler High School in 1969 and furthered her education at the Parker School of Business majoring in accounting.
LaVonne worked for Frenchman Valley Coop in Imperial where she met Gary Lee Jaeger. They were united in marriage on July 5, 1973 in Haigler. They made their home in Haigler. Later, she cared for her mother on the farm until her passing. LaVonne owned and operated The Family Market in Haigler for many years until her retirement.
LaVonne was a devoted Girl Scout in her youth and was a member of the United Methodist Church and VFW Women’s Auxiliary. In May 2018, the Haigler Alumni Association honored LaVonne from the Class of 1969 for her tireless efforts in maintaining a local Haigler grocery store, her support of the Haigler Alumni Association, and numerous community activities.
She loved cooking, reading and her time with her family, playing with her grandchildren and cards during the holidays.
LaVonne passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, at the Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman, Nebraska. She was 71 years of age.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Willard Relph; grandparents Floyd and Mattie Trembly and Clarence and Phoebe Smith; husband Gary Jaeger; father-in-law and mother-in-law Samuel and Lola Jaeger.
Survivors include son Samuel Lee Jaeger and wife Dr. Shiuvaun; daughter Crystal Gail (Jaeger) Daniels and significant other Denis Vandike; four grandchildren Alissa Jaeger, Mattie Daniels, E. Michael Jaeger and Jaylee Daniels; three great-grandchildren Kylie, Kaiden and Lyndell; twin brother LaVoine Smith and wife Glenda; sister LaVeta and husband Dr. Tim Blecha; brother LaVern Smith and wife Laura; sister Julia and husband Sean Siegrist; sister Jancie and husband Steve Twiss; brother Jim Relph and wife Chris; and along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. (MT), Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Haigler United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the Haigler Cemetery.
Visitation was on Friday from 2-6 p.m. at the Benkelman Memorial Chapel, Benkelman, Nebraska.
A memorial has been established in LaVonne’s memory.
