Kevin Earl Hatch, 65, of Grant, passed away Oct. 27, 2022 peacefully at his home in Grant, Nebraska surrounded by loved ones.
Kevin was born in Oakland, California, on Sept. 15, 1957, to Glen “Earl” and Darlene (Hansmeier) Hatch. He was baptized as an infant in Oakland, California. At the age of 4, his family moved back to Grant. He was confirmed on April 5,1971 into the Zion Lutheran Church and he graduated from Grant High School in 1976.
On Oct. 15, 1977, Kevin was united in marriage to Shelly Jean Styskal at Zion Lutheran Church in Grant. Kevin and Shelly worked together at Hatch’s Market. In 1984, the couple was blessed with their only son Kyle Austin Hatch. Watching Kyle compete in his many sporting activities was always a great source of pride and joy for Kevin.
On July 4, 2001, Kevin married Barbara Anne Lee at their home in Grant. By their union, Kevin was blessed with four more children, Tony, Ben, Sam, and Candace. Kevin developed a special bond with them all, especially his only daughter, Candace.
In 2003, Kevin and his sister Kendra purchased Hatch’s Superfoods from their parents as 3rd generation store owners. Kevin was passionate about the grocery store and deeply dedicated to the community.
Athletics had been a part of Kevin’s life from a young age. He was a Golden Glove boxer, excelled at baseball as an All-Star first baseman, and played an integral part of the 1975 first-ever Nebraska State Champion football team. Kevin’s passion for athletics spilled into adulthood, he helped start the youth wrestling program in Grant and was a longtime sponsor of the 3-Man Golf Scramble that took place at the Pheasant Run Golf Course in Grant every year.
Kevin’s love and dedication to his community was unwavering. He was an active member and past president  of the Grant Jaycees. He was also a member of the Grant Economic Development committee. Kevin and Barb had been honored with the Good Neighbor Award.
Kevin was a longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Grant.
Kevin had a generous heart and was always ready and willing to help those in need. Those fortunate enough to know Kevin knew he was tough but also generous and caring.
Kevin is survived by his wife Barb Hatch of Grant; sons Kyle (Megan) Hatch of Lincoln, Tony (Nora) Leonard of Lincoln, Ben (Kristina) Lee of Lincoln and Sam (Traci) Lee of Madrid; daughter Candace (Josh) Macy of Lincoln; grandchildren Kinsley and Knox Hatch, Cameron, Vivian and Mason Leonard, Douglas and Kenna Lee, Brady, Thomas, and Hudson Lee, Rose and Sophia Macy; brother Kirk Hatch of Grant; sister Kendra (Dan) Ourada of Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law Joanne (Brad) Keuten of Grant; In-laws Phil and Ann Calkins,Teresa, Galen, Doug and Randy Styskal; along with other relatives, good friends and Hatch’s Superfoods family.
Kevin was preceded in death by his first wife, Shelly Hatch, and his parents, Earl and Darlene.
A memorial has been established in Kevin’s memory for later designation by his family. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com. Services will be streamed live at ziongrant.org.
Services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Grant with Pastor Michael Heckmann officiating. Husker or Plainsmen attire is encouraged. Interment will be in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation was on Tuesday, from 2-6 p.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant.
