Judy Miller
A Memorial Service for Judy Miller will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Church in Edison, Nebraska with Pastor Kirk Einspahr officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Edison Cemetery, Edison, Nebraska.
Judy Maxine Miller, 78 years of age, of Kearney, formerly of Edison, entered into heaven on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney due to complications from pneumonia. Judy was born on June 30, 1945, in Imperial, to Milton Ramsey “Jack” and Marian Maxine (Davidson) Browning. She was raised on the family farm near Champion and received her schooling from Imperial Public Schools graduating in 1963.
When she was a young teen a family friend, Guy Hixon was at the farm and happened to hear her beautiful voice, he asked her if she would be the singer in his band, and thus began her wonderful journey as lead singer in “The Champion Valley Boys” band. They played in the local area and into Colorado. Judy was singing at the dance hall in Indianola, Nebraska when a local Bartley boy whom she had never seen before sauntered in. His name was Jesse Miller. He listened to her sing for a while and then declared “I’m going to marry that girl someday.” And that’s just what he did. Judy and Jesse were united in marriage at the Methodist church in Indianola in the midst of an unexpected Nebraska snowstorm. Jesse carried her over the alter and out of the church worried she would slip. She was a tiny little thing. They were married for 40 years.
Judy and Jesse were blessed with three wonderful children: Ricky Eugene, Cathy Maxine, and Tony Jay. They lived in Bartley, Nebraska, Ellis, Kansas and Oxford, Nebraska, before finally settling in their permanent home in Edison in 1975.
Judy worked at Becton Dickenson in Holdrege for 30 years. She was a hard worker. She was a woman of grace and kindness and blessed many with her comforting words and soothing ways. She never knew a stranger and provided warmth and love to those who were lucky enough to know her. She had a special sense of humor and delighted in making those around her laugh and she sprinkled joy and comfort into the lives of those who knew her. She was truly an angelic soul and loved the Lord.
Judy enjoyed church, singing, bible study, bingo, bird watching, writing, art, blue morning glories, collecting horses and angels but her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren and she maintained a close relationship with them all throughout her life and they will carry her in their hearts throughout theirs.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jesse Miller in 2002; brother Jerry Browning; niece Patricia Maddux; nephew Todd Miller; four brothers-in-law Joe Maddux, Boyd Miller, Casey Miller, Jerry Miller; and sister-in-law Barbara Masur.
Left to cherish her memory and blessed to have called her mother and grandmother are her three children Rick Miller (Marla) of Odessa, Cathy Kumm (Don) of Norfolk and Tony Miller (Kerri) of Kearney; five grandchildren Brittany Bartusch of Norfolk, Samantha Miller of Oxford, Brandon Bartusch of Wausa, Madisyn Jakub (Dallen) of Brainard and Taryn Miller of Lincoln; three great-grandchildren Livviona Russell of Oxford, Grayson Bartusch of Norfolk and Paisley Jakub of Brainard. Also survived by her sister, Joan Maddux of Wauneta; special sister-in-law, Patricia Miller-Blake of Cleveland, Ohio; and sisters-in-law, Mitzi Hargis (Ted) of St. Joseph, Missouri and Nancy Miller-Rupert (Wilber) of Culbertson, Nebraska; along with nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and many friends.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Community Building in Edison, with the family greeting.
Memorials in Judy’s honor can be made to the family for later designation.
