Janice (Jan) Glenda (Thompson) Widger

Janice (Jan) Glenda (Thompson) Widger was born July 29, 1942, in rural Chase County, Wauneta, Nebraska to Glenn J. and Barbara E. (Sparks) Thompson and departed this life on Oct. 4, 2021, at her home in Imperial surrounded by her family.
Janice was baptized with her children at the Methodist church in Imperial on Sept. 18, 1966.
Jan attended Hillcrest District #30 Elementary Country School and graduated from Wauneta High School with the class of 1960. After high school, she attended Central Business College in Denver, Colorado and graduated in August 1961.
At the time of her mother’s death on Sept. 16, 1961, she returned to the family farm north of Wauneta and helped her dad and younger brother, Glenn Junior. Jan loved the farm.
Jan married Jackie D. Collins in February 1963 and to this union two children were born: Kirk William and Rhonda Bernice. She was remarried in 1973 to Marlin E. Widger and three children joined their household: Mari Jo, Ward and Larry.
Jan worked most of her life in the health profession. She enjoyed working with the elderly and was a nurse’s aide at the Imperial Manor for a number of years. She was also employed as a dental assistant, X-ray tech, and medical transcriptionist. She worked at Chase County Schools 10 years before retiring in 2007.
Jan enjoyed traveling, yard work, reading and watching Nebraska football with old friends. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Barbara Thompson; her son, Kirk; brothers: Jimmie Glenn and Richard Harry; and her son-in-law, Thomas Michael Wolfe.
Survivors include her daughter, Rhonda (Collins) Wolfe of Climax Springs, Missouri; twin sister, Janette (husband Richard) Carmin of Imperial; brother, Glenn J. (wife Bonnie) Thompson of Arvada, Colorado; sisters-in-law: Patty Thompson of Imperial and Sharon K. Thompson of Gothenburg; grandchildren: Thomas John and Camille Suzanne Wolfe of Climax Springs.
Jan also leaves to mourn her passing numerous nieces and nephews (who were very special to her) along with lifelong friends and family members.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. at Liewer Funeral Home in Imperial with Randy Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.
Visitation will be Friday afternoon, Oct. 8 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Imperial.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Jan’s memory has been suggested to the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department and the Imperial EMS.
