Ina Mae Wilson was born Feb. 19, 1932, at Oakley, Kansas, to George and Florence (Hapes) Andersen. As a youngster she grew up on a farm near Benkelman, Nebraska, attending country school. Then, as a teenager, Ina Mae boarded and worked at the Benkelman Hospital while attending Benkelman High School graduating in 1949.
Ina Mae married Jack V. Wilson on Sept. 15, 1949, at the Zion Lutheran Church of Benkelman, where the couple first settled. Ina Mae and Jack then resided in several different communities including Grant and Elwood, following Jack’s career with the State of Nebraska Department of Roads. In 1977, the couple moved to Imperial, where Jack became the superintendent.
Ina Mae and Jack have made Imperial their home until present.
Ina Mae was employed in health care for many years, initially as a Licensed Practical Nurse and retiring from Chase County Hospital as an administrator.
She was active and lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. Ina Mae enjoyed gardening especially raising flowers and was an excellent cook. Later in life she found a new talent in painting which she loved. Ina Mae was a fun loving and a genuinely nice person who placed everyone above herself, unless you were playing cards or marbles, then it was everyone for themselves!!
Ina Mae passed away early Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home, Imperial. She was 90 years of age.
Ina Mae was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Adam; and son-in-law Laverne.
Survivors include husband Jack of Imperial; sons Mike Wilson and wife Barb of Des Moines, Iowa and Kevin Wilson and wife Julie of Alliance; daughter Peggi Hatch of Elwood; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sisters Edna Copp of Imperial and Karen Richard and husband Ted of Grand Island.
No visitation, Ina Mae’s wishes were for cremation.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 18, 10:30 a.m. (MT) at Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial, with Pastor Scott Adle officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman, 2 p.m. (MT).
In Lieu of Flowers, a memorial in Ina Mae’s memory, has been suggested to the donor’s choice.
