Helen Mae Schilke was born Sept. 6, 1951, in Caldwell, Idaho, to William C. and Laura B. (Duncan) Dixon. Helen grew up in Chase County, Nebraska, graduating from Chase County High School in 1969. She continued her education attending the McCook Beauty Academy in 1970.
Helen married Wayne D. Schilke on Feb. 6, 1971, and the couple settled on a farm near Imperial. Helen was the consummate farm wife assisting on the farm wherever needed. She was also well known for waitressing in several locations in Imperial and Champion. Helen enjoyed writing, reading, singing, and studying history. She especially loved to spend time with family and friends.
Helen passed away Thursday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2021, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home, Imperial. She was 70 years of age.
Survivors include sons Dan Schilke of Champion, Ken Schilke and wife, Sonya, of Imperial and Tom Schilke and wife, Ann, of Weston; 2 grandchildren, Sydney Schilke and Maxwell Schilke; brother, Dalo Dixon of Flippin, Arkansas; sister, Elizabeth (Bess) Redden of Minneola, Kansas.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Jean Dixon and Nancy Vinson; and nephew, John Vinson.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning, Dec. 11, 2021, 10:30 a.m. (MT) at the First United Methodist Church of Imperial, with Pastor Debra Copple and Rev. Melody Newman officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial.
No visitation, Helen chose cremation.
A memorial, in Helen’s memory, has been suggested to the Imperial EMS.
