Gregorio Barrera Murillo

Gregorio Barrera Murillo was born Nov. 16, 1942, in San Benito, Texas, to Gregorio Murillo and Esperanza Barrera. As a young man he grew up and attended school in Texas before moving to Colorado.
Gregorio married Socorro Perez on Sept. 7, 1967, in Greeley, Colorado and the couple settled in Ft. Lupton, Colorado, where they lived for several years before making Imperial, Nebraska, their home.  Gregorio was employed by Edwin Krajewski on the farm and also held a position at Trinidad Bean and Elevator Company.
Gregorio enjoyed listening to music, playing bingo with family and friends, and cruising with wife, Socorro. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Gregorio passed away Monday evening, Nov. 30, 2020, at the Chase County Community Hospital. He was 78 years of age.
Survivors Include: wife: Socorro of Imperial; daughters Esperanza “Jessie” Murillo, of Imperial, Mary Quezada and husband, Jaime, of Imperial, Irma Munoz and husband, Ruben, of Imperial, Angie Murillo, of Imperial,  Veronica Murillo of Imperial; sons Gregorio Murillo III and wife, Maria, of Imperial, Ray Murillo and Stacy Fosbinder, of Imperial; grandchildren Abraham Ramos, Maria Ramos, Carolina Ramos, Catarina Ramos, Mark Murillo, Abby Murillo, Gilberto Murillo, Gabriela Murillo, Antonio Quezada, Jamie Quezada, Ramon Varay, Juan Varay, Erica Varay, Josie Garcia, Alondra Garcia, Isabella Torres, Pricilla Torres, Krista Murillo, Caitlyn Murillo, Ray Murillo, Tiffany Castle, Brittney Simeon, and Zach Murillo; 25 great-grandchildren; brother Rey Murillo and wife, Stella, of Brownsville, Texas.
Gregorio was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Josefhina Castillo and Guadalupe Murillo; grandson; Luiz Quezada.
A funeral mass was held Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, 10 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Imperial, with Father Lothar Gilde officiating. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial.
Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 4, 2020, 2-7 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Imperial.
A rosary was recited Friday, Dec. 4, 2020, 7 p.m. at St Patrick Catholic Church, Imperial.
A memorial has been suggested to the Murillo Family for a future designation.
