EVELYN LOUISE MCGREGOR, age 83 of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away Nov. 30, 2020, at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Evelyn was born on Dec. 26, 1936 in Harlan County on the family farm near Orleans. She was born to Elmer Gale and Lucille Grace (Hays) Malone. She was the oldest of seven children.
Evelyn had a defining moment at age 11 when she invited Jesus into her heart as her personal Lord and Savior. She was a member of the Methodist Church and Evangelical Free Church and belonged to Jesus.
She graduated from Wauneta high school in 1955 where she loved being in the marching band. Evelyn then went onto college at Kearney State College where she earned her teaching certificate.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Clifford Allen McGregor on June 1, 1958. The couple then made their home in California as Clifford was stationed there in the Army Reserves. After the army, the McGregors made their home in Hayes County in May of 1959. Their marriage was later blessed with the birth of one son, Allen Eugene, and one daughter, Debra Louise.
Evelyn began her teaching career with lower elementary and music in Keystone. She also taught at Fort Ord, California and upper grades in Grainton and rural Hayes County schools.
Evelyn was blessed to be a wife and stay at home mom for many years. She loved being a wife and mother. She was blessed when she became a grandmother as well as a great grandmother.
Evelyn was asked to start early childhood education in Grainton, Hayes Center and Wauneta. She became well known with Peter Rabbit Preschool, where she taught for 31 years.
Evelyn served her Lord with all of her heart. She taught and directed vacation bible schools, directed youth choirs, and taught many Sunday school classes. Evelyn always loved to sing. She also served as a volunteer in Stonecroft Ministries for many years. She led and coordinated many bible studies and helped to organize Christian Women’s Clubs in Wallace, Grant and Ogallala serving in all of the positions as well as the area/regional representative.
Faith was of foundational importance in Evelyn’s life. She was always open and ready to provide a witness for the faith she had. Evelyn was a Godly example to her family and friends. She spent many years joyfully and diligently ‘campaigning’ for Jesus.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Allen McGregor of (Walker, Minnesota); daughters in love Stacy Jackson, Lori Kent (Grand Island) and Jeanne Tool and daughter Trista Tool of (Kearney); daughter, Deb (Mike) Schardt of (Carleton); son in love John Skalsky (Danel) of (Ogallala); grandchildren Krista (Chase) Winter of (Omaha), Joel (Jennifer) Schardt of (Carleton), Emilie Schardt (Carleton), Erica Pemberton and Luke Pemberton; grandchildren in love Saige, Hunter, and Ethan Skalsky, Parker and Payton Catlin (Ogallala); great-grandchildren: Hadley Pemberton and Hudson Winter and another great grandchild on the way.
Survivors also include her sisters, Alta Keating of (Palisade) & Bonnie Johnson of (Roscoe); sister-in-law, Judy Malone of (Scobey, Montana); stepsisters Mary Lou Sherwood of (Las Alamos, New Mexico), Jane Schuster of (McCook); step-sisters-in-law, Karen Reiners of (Calhoun, Missouri) along with many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by father Gale Malone; stepmother Dorothy Sophie (Reiners); mother Lucille Buechler; sisters Connie Jean Havel; Nancy Gayle McDougal; her beloved husband, Clifford; brothers, Gary Malone and infant brother, Lonnie Malone; two brothers-in-law, Robert Keating and Gregg Johnson; step-brother Jerry Reiners; and step-brothers in law Arnie Schuster, Boyd Sherwood; parents-in-law Earl and Joyce McGregor.

Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, at 10 a.m. at New Hope Church in Ogallala, with Pastor Matt Waitley officiating. Interment followed in the Wallace Morning View Cemetery.
Visitation was on Friday, from 2-6 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Ogallala.
