Elsie Coen

Funeral services for Elsie M. Coen will be held Friday, Nov. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Mark Crist officiating. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege with Eagle Auxiliary honors provided by the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #3132 of Holdrege.
Elsie Mae (Browning) Coen of Holdrege passed away on Nov. 7, 2021, at the Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege at the age of 95.
Elsie was born on the family farm near Imperial, Nebraska on April 18, 1926, the fourth of eight children born to Homer Eldon and Alice Margret (Twillger) Browning. She received her education from Chase County High School in Imperial, graduating with the class of 1943.
Following her education, Elsie taught school for one year in a one-room schoolhouse. On July 1, 1944, she was united in marriage to Orville Raymond Coen at Phillipsburg, Kansas, and this union was blessed with two children: Elsie “Elaine” and Roger Lee.
The family made their home in Holdrege where Elsie was employed at Artistic Woven Labels as a loom tender for over 20 years. She then took great joy in helping watch her grandchildren during their school-age years. On Feb. 2, 1992, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orville.
Elsie was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege for over 80 years, where she was past chairman and president of the United Methodist Women and enjoyed the lasting friendships made in Women’s Circle. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary and was a past state president.
She enjoyed sewing and was a skilled seamstress. She was devoted and loved to volunteer her time for the Red Cross Bloodmobile in Holdrege. Most of all, Elsie loved being a grandma and great-grandma.
Besides her husband and parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her son, Roger Lee Coen; son-in-law, John H. Borgman; two sisters: Naomi Browning and Marie (husband herb) Kubal; five brothers: Ralph (wife Dollie) Browning, Glen Browning, Jack Browning, Charles Browning and George (wife Lawana) Browning.
Elsie leaves to celebrate her life her daughter, Elaine Borgman of Kearney, Nebraska; three grandsons: Steven (wife Leigh) Borgman of Alma, Nebraska; Scott (wife Sarah) Borgman of Platte Center, Nebraska; and Stewart Borgman (Jennifer Schneider) of Bladen, Nebraska; 10 great-grandchildren: Mikaela (spouse Tasha) Bauer, Andrew Borgman, Christina Borgman, Rebecca Borgman, Nickolas Borgman, Daniel Borgman, Kaitlin Schneider, Abigail Borgman, Jonathan Borgman and Jacob Borgman; two great-great-grandchildren: Evan Bauer and one on the way; two sisters-in-law: Donna McBride and Dottie Browning; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Elsie’s honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
