Eleanor Lorene (Hogsett) Crabb

Eleanor Lorene (Hogsett) Crabb was born October 6, 1923, south of Lamar, Nebraska, in a sod house to Bessie Pearl (North) and Jacob Hogsett. Eleanor grew up and attended school country near Lamar and at the age of 54, she furthered her education at McCook Community College.
In March of 1941 Eleanor married Melvin Griess in Franklin and to this union four children were born: Charles, Bernadine, Merle and Vanetta. Later in June of 1960 Eleanor married Ira McAfoos in Alma and they became the parents of Kathy, Kristine and Caroll.
In addition to being an avid housewife and loving mother, Eleanor was a member of the Wauneta Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, gardening and dancing. It was at a singles’ dance that Eleanor met James Crabb and the couple were married on March 17, 1989, in Wauneta. Eleanor and James loved dancing and they went every chance they could.
Eleanor passed away Sept. 6, 2022, at the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center. She was 98 years of age.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents Jacob Hogsett and Bessie Hogsett (Cain); three infant siblings; four brothers and six sisters; granddaughters Marlene Colby, Tammy Shriver and Diane Mowry; great-granddaughter Sylvia Ahrens.
Survivors include husband James C. Crabb of Wauneta; sons Merle Griess and wife Connie of Champion and Caroll McAfoos of Parks; daughter Vanetta Heitkotter of Hutchinson, Kansas; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great grandchildren; and sister Dora Ruch of Haxtun, Colorado.
No Visitation, Eleanor chose cremation.
A memorial, in Eleanor’s memory, has been suggested to the Wauneta Senior Center, Wauneta.
Funeral services for Eleanor will be held Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, 10 a.m. (MT), at Liewer Funeral Home, Wauneta, with Pastor Elias Mukindia officiating.
