Donald Leroy Maucher

Donald Leroy Maucher was born to Fredrick C. and Cecilia M. (O’Neil) Maucher June 25, 1928, at their home in the Blanche community in northeast Chase County, Nebraska.
Don grew up in Chase County, graduating from Chase County High School in 1947. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 1, 1950, and served in Korea. Don was honorably discharged on Nov. 16, 1952, and returned to Chase County, continuing his education by attending barber school in Omaha in 1954.
Don opened Don’s Barbershop in downtown Imperial, which he operated for over 50 years. He enjoyed visiting with his customers and sparking political debates “all in good fun.”
In Don’s younger years, he enjoyed participating in town team baseball and bowling leagues. He was an avid Cornhusker football fan and would travel to Lincoln with many friends for the games.
Don especially loved, followed and was a sponsor of the Chase County High School girls’ track teams. He never missed a meet and was a super supporter. Don was also a member of the VFW Post #4688 of Imperial.
In his later years, Don enjoyed his big screen TV, watching Husker football and political debates. Don also loved his cats which he cared for and pampered.
Don passed away Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, at his home in downtown Imperial at the age of 93.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth; niece, Patricia Maucher; and great-nephews, Justin Howell and Kenley Farrell.
Survivors include his niece, Mica Maucher (Mick Cotant) of Imperial; great nieces and nephew: Tricia (Jacob) Sweet, Torie (Angel) Contreras and Tyler Fosdick, all of Greeley, Colorado; and numerous cousins.
Graveside inurnment services will be Friday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial, with Father Lothar Gilde officiating.
No visitation. Don’s wishes were for cremation.
A memorial has been suggested to the Chase County High School athletic department.
