Delpha June (Colson) Olmsted, 90, passed away in Omaha, Nebraska on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022 with her family at her side.
Delpha was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Fritz; her parents; daughter, Cherry Neverve; brothers Eldon Colson and Omar Colson; sister Thelma (Colson) Graham. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Steve) Spence of Nixa, Missouri; sons, Ed (Toni) Olmsted of El Cajon, California and Ron (Terri) Olmsted of Marion, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Delpha was born on March 2, 1932 on the family farm near Wauneta to Harry and Lucy (Troxel) Colson. She was the youngest of four children. She graduated in 1950 from Wauneta High School, earned her teaching certificate and taught school for one year in a one-room schoolhouse near Wauneta.
On June 1, 1951, she married Frederick Wayne Olmsted (Fritz) at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. While Fritz was on active duty with the USAF, the couple lived in Biloxi and then moved to Bloomington, Minnesota. After his military discharge, they moved to the family farm near Wauneta.
In 1955, they moved to Ogallala where she worked for several local businesses including Goodall and Montgomery Ward. They lived in Ogallala for 18 years until their move to McCook in 1973.
They lived in several different locales including Guadalajara, Mexico for three years and in McCook for a second time before returning to Ogallala in 1986 where they resided for the next 30 years. In 2017, they moved to Marion, Iowa to be near family. Finally, in 2020, they moved to an assisted living facility in Omaha.
Delpha was a talented pianist. She loved playing her Clavinova for family and regularly for friends at the Ogallala Senior Center. She also loved playing bridge and other card games and had many enjoyable games with her friends at the Senior Center and her bridge club. She loved gardening and cooking and especially her grandchildren.
She was active in the Ogallala Senior Center activities and administration. She and Fritz spent countless hours enjoying the Center and the available activities.
She and Fritz were long-time members of the Ogallala United Methodist Church.
Delpha was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She adored her grandkids and great-grandkids. She also loved her little dog, Pixie. She will be missed by every member of her loving family.
A service will be held for Delpha and Fritz at a later date. Reichmuth Funeral Home of Elkhorn is caring for the Olmsted family.
