Delorse Baney departed this life at 101 years of age on Nov. 13, 2023 at Cappella Assisted Living in Pueblo, Colorado.
Delorse Aleen Baney was born Feb. 3, 1922 to Norma (Havens) and Perry Guycle Glendenning at the Daniel Havens home in Keya Paha County, Nebraska. After graduating from Keya Paha County High School in 1940, Delorse then graduated from Normal Teachers Training and taught school for five years. Her last two years were in Dundy County where she met her husband, Dale Baney. On Aug. 14, 1944, Delorse and Dale were married in Ainsworth. To this union five children were born; Guycle William, Richard Dale, Dalend Ray, Rockie Dee and Dayla Aleen. In 1947, they made their home on a farm 14 miles north of Benkelman, where they lived for 30 years. They retired in Wauneta until Dale’s death in 1990; then she moved to Oklahoma in 1991 and Colorado in 2005 to be closer to her children.
Delorse was a woman of unwavering faith and strong character, striving each day to glorify her Lord and Savior in word and deed. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a loyal friend. Delorse loved being a homemaker, “it was never work”, and with the heart of a teacher, was always reading, studying, and sharing with others what she was learning. At the age of 88, she taught middle and high school art students to crochet at Patriot Learning Center in Falcon, Colorado. As a lifelong letter writer, Delorse sent hand written notes of encouragement to others right up to the time of her passing.
Delorse was preceded in death by husband, Dale; parents, PG and Norma Glendenning; sister, Margaret (Gerald) Brown; brother, Ingle Glendenning; sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma Jean Glendenning, Elila Whitehead, Velma (Max) Cline, Leta (Junior) Andres, Bonnie (Delbert) Nelson, Evertt Baney, Billie Baney, Wilford Hansen, Lyle Hansen, Ed Zimbelman; and two step great-grandchildren.
Delorse is survived by sons, Guycle (Shirley) Baney of Canon City, Colorado; Richard (Jackie) Baney of Greenville, Texas; Dalend Baney of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Rockie (Diane) Baney of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter, Dayla (Dennis) Thompson of Owasso, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; brothers, Eugene (Velma) Glendenning of Jacksonville, Illinois; Elgin Glendenning of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sisters and brother-in-law, Jeannie Glendenning, Ruby Stock, Helen Hansen, Barbara (Earl) Pursley, Donna Baney, *Jimmy (Mary) Baney; and a host of nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. (*Jimmy Baney has since passed.)
Marked in Delorse’s Bible; Psalm 91:14-16 (NLT) The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 4, 11:15 am (MT) at Wauneta Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Bauer and Pastor Brian Loy officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, Nebraska.
